Talya Eliav wins the Prime Minister's award for composers for 2024

The judges' decision: Talya Eliav is a multifaceted musician, and her works in the field of art music show a personal compositional language: in writing for voice she deals with the encounter between sound and pronunciation, and in writing for instruments she explores the sonorities of each instrument, sometimes by using extended playing techniques. The notation she uses also includes verbal instructions, a dictionary of symbols and graphic notation, and it is clear that she draws her inspiration from a variety of sources – impressionism, conceptualism, electronic music and improvisation. All of these serve her naturally to create a sound world in which her personal mark is evident, and in which each work is a miniature musical study. For this, she is awarded the Prime Minister's Prize for Composers in the field of concert music for 2024.

Safe Passage – original soundtrack to a short film by Oded Hirsch

Last summer, Talya composed original music for a film that is at the center of a new solo exhibition by the multidisciplinary artist Oded Hirsch, at the Haifa Museum of Art.

After a fruitful joint work of Talya and Oded, the soundtrack was recorded in the mill studio in Shaar Ha'amkim. The wonderful musicians who took part in the performance are Orit Messer Jakobi: cello, Tal Feder: double bass, Shai Lowenstein did the mix with great sensitivity.

The film can be seen at the Haifa Museum until the beginning of January 2023, alongside other fascinating sculpture and video works.

LISTEN – sound installation

Under Haifa Museum's program for community based art, Talya created a small chamber dedicated for the act of listening. Inside this ex-territorial space she brings the sounds collected by herself and her neighbors. The group she gathered explored the neighborhood Bat Galim (Haifa) through ears only, during a period of 6 weeks.
